The children’s ward at Furness General Hospital is raising funds to purchase a 3D Distractor for use on the ward. A donation of £500 from Furness Mark Masons took the total raised so far to £4,000 which represents half of the £8,000 required.
The kit consists of a lap-top with software which transmits pictures to 3D glasses which are worn by the patient. This keeps the child engrossed whilst the medical staff goes about their work.

Ken Jackson, who had organised the fund rising, accompanied West Lancashire Mark Mason Charity Steward Alan Jones to the ward to present the cheque to Ward Manager Heather Wood and staff member Julie Alberry.
Heather explained,” The equipment will help prevent the child becoming upset or traumatized when undergoing procedures. That will make the work of the staff considerably easier. We are really very grateful to the Mark Masons for this donation. The half way point being reached is a terrific milestone.”
To maximize its use the unit will be a portable one so it can be used throughout the ward with special needs children benefitting the most from this innovative equipment.
Ken had organised a raffle which raised £310 with the West Lancashire Mark Charity adding a further £190.
The Charity Steward for West Lancashire Mark Masons, Alan Jones added, ”Once again the members have been generous with their donations and enabled us to help this worthy cause. I am sure they will be pleased to see their cash being so well used.”
